We fit these taps. We don't sell them — and that changes what this guide is for.
This page used to list boiling water taps with prices next to them, as if you could buy one from us. You can't. We stopped that side of things because a plumbing and bathroom firm has no business being a middleman on a kitchen appliance. What we do have is the part nobody selling you a tap will tell you: what it takes to fit one properly, what goes wrong, and what it costs to run once the novelty wears off.
So this is the version without a sales pitch attached.
What you're actually buying
A boiling water tap is two things: a tap on the worktop and a small insulated tank in the cupboard below it. The tank holds water at just under boiling and keeps it there. The tap is the easy part. The tank is what decides whether the installation is straightforward or a nuisance.
Three practical constraints, in the order they catch people out:
- Cupboard space. A typical 3-litre tank needs around 400mm of clear height and about 150mm of diameter, sat under the sink alongside the waste trap and whatever else lives there. If your sink base already has a bin, a water softener and a dishwasher hose running through it, the tank has to go somewhere and something else has to move.
- A power supply. The tank needs a switched 13-amp socket in the cupboard. If there isn't one, that's an electrician's visit, and depending on how it's done it may be notifiable work.
- Water pressure. Most manufacturers want a minimum incoming cold pressure of around 2 bar. Below that, the tap either won't be signed off or won't perform. Worth checking before you order anything.
What they cost in 2026
Manufacturer or retailer list prices including VAT, checked on 30 August 2026. These are the tap and tank only — fitting is separate, and we come back to that.

One brand change worth knowing about. If you researched taps a year ago you'll have come across Aquataps. In July 2026 that company rebranded as Quel Tap — same business, same products, same warranties, new name. If you're comparing an old review against a current price list, that's why the names don't line up.
A warning about tap prices generally. When we last audited this market properly, a large minority of the products advertised online either didn't exist in the finish shown, had been discontinued, or were listed at prices hundreds of pounds below what the item actually cost. Discontinued models linger on retailer sites for months. Before you commit, check the price against the manufacturer's own current list, not a comparison site. We had to correct two figures in the table above for exactly that reason before publishing it.
What fitting costs, and what makes it more
A straight swap — existing cupboard has space, a socket is already there, pressure is fine, and you're replacing a standard mixer — is a couple of hours' work for one plumber. We charge by the hour: £80 the first hour, £60 each hour after that, £360 maximum for a day. Parts extra. The full rate card is on our pricing page and there are no surprises in it.
Prices include VAT and everything we always charge for, such as waste removal.
What turns it into a bigger job:
- No socket in the cupboard. Adds an electrician.
- Low or unstable mains pressure. Sometimes fixable, sometimes not.
- A tank that won't fit where the manufacturer expects it, needing pipework rerouted or the sink base modified.
- Waste connection. Some models want a dedicated route; a shared trap isn't always acceptable.
We'd rather look at the cupboard before quoting than give you a number over the phone and revise it on the day.
Do you need a certificate?
Mostly, no — and this is where a lot of online advice is wrong.
Building Regulations Approved Document G3, which requires a specifically qualified installer and notification to Building Control, applies to unvented hot water storage vessels over 15 litres. Boiling tap tanks are typically 2.4 to 11 litres, so they sit under that threshold and don't trigger the G3 competent-person requirement.
That is not the same as saying anyone can bodge one in. The installation still has to comply with the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations, the expansion and discharge arrangement has to be right, and the electrical connection has to be done properly. A tank holding water near boiling point, under mains pressure, in the cupboard your children open — treat the safety devices as the point of the job, not paperwork.
Running costs, honestly
Manufacturers quote standby costs of around 3 pence a day. That figure is a fair reflection of the insulated tank sitting there doing nothing — it isn't your total running cost, because you also pay to reheat the water you actually draw off.
Whether a tap beats a kettle depends almost entirely on how you use a kettle. If you habitually fill it to the top for one mug, a tap will probably save you money and time. If you already boil what you need, the honest answer is that the tap is a convenience purchase, not an energy-saving one. Buy it because you want it, and treat any saving as a bonus.
The recurring costs people forget: filter cartridges on filtered models, roughly annually, and descaling in hard-water areas. Dartford, Bexley and Gravesend are hard-water areas. Ask what the filter costs before you choose the brand, not after.
If you're having a kitchen or bathroom done anyway
The cheapest time to fit one is while the units are out and the floor is up. If a boiling tap is on your list for "one day", tell whoever is doing the work now — running the supply and the power while the cupboard is empty costs a fraction of coming back to it later.

Not usually. The G3 requirement for a qualified installer and Building Control notification applies to unvented hot water vessels over 15 litres, and boiling tap tanks are typically 2.4 to 11 litres. It still needs a competent plumber — the water fittings regulations, the discharge arrangement and the electrical connection all apply.
How much does a boiling water tap cost in 2026?
Roughly £500 at the value end up to around £1,600 for a premium brand in a designer finish, for the tap and tank. Fitting is separate and depends on what is already in your cupboard.
Will it save me money against a kettle?
Only if you routinely over-fill your kettle. Standby cost is around 3p a day, but you still pay to heat the water you use. Treat it as a convenience purchase.
What happened to Aquataps?
They rebranded as Quel Tap in July 2026. Same company, products, team and warranties — just a new name.
Can you supply the tap as well as fit it?
No. We stopped selling taps. Buy it wherever it is cheapest and we will install it.
