A Victorian Terrace Bathroom, Re-Piped and Reborn in Bexley

The house was over a century old — and so was some of its plumbing. Cast iron pipework was strangling the water pressure, and the family bathroom was long past its best.

The Problem

Victorian terraces are wonderful houses with one recurring weakness: the plumbing is often a museum of every era the house has lived through. In this Bexley home, original cast iron pipework was still doing the heavy lifting — corroded inside, narrowed by decades of scale, and choking the water pressure to a dribble.

A new bathroom fitted onto old pipes is lipstick on a leak. The shower would have looked lovely and performed miserably. So the honest answer — and the one we gave — was to fix the plumbing first.

What We Did

Full re-pipe in copper

The old cast iron came out and clean modern copper went in — restoring proper flow and pressure to the whole bathroom, not just masking the symptom at the shower head.

New combi connection

We connected the new pipework properly to the combi boiler so the hot side delivers steady temperature and pressure — the difference between a shower you tolerate and one you enjoy.

Walk-in shower with Crittall-style screen

A generous walk-in shower behind a black-framed Crittall-style screen — a look that suits a period home while being completely modern underneath.

Full waterproofing before tiling

As on every GWS bathroom, the wet zone was tanked before a single tile went up. Victorian timber floors deserve better than slow water damage.

A finish that respects the house

Grey tones, a wall-hung vanity, and fittings chosen to feel at home in a period property — practical for family life, easy to keep clean.

Water pressure

Fixed

at the source, not the symptom

A century-old terrace with modern plumbing, proper pressure, and a family bathroom that finally matches the rest of the house. If your period property in Bexley or Bexleyheath has beautiful bones and terrible water pressure, the fix is the same — and it's very doable.
