Case Study

A Luxury Bathroom, Built from the Studs Up in Dartford

Nothing about this room was cosmetic. The whole space came back to bare studs — then returned as blue herringbone, marble and brushed brass.

The Brief

The owners of this Dartford home didn't want a refresh — they wanted the bathroom they'd been saving screenshots of for years. Statement tiles, a freestanding bath, warm metallics. The kind of room that usually lives on Pinterest and rarely survives contact with a real budget and a real house.

Getting there meant starting from nothing: the existing room was stripped back to bare studs so the layout, the plumbing and the waterproofing could all be built right before anything beautiful went in.

The Build

Stripped to the studs

Everything came out — walls back to timber, floor up, services exposed. On a job at this level there's no point building luxury on top of guesswork.

New stud walls & first-fix plumbing

The layout was reworked with new stud walls, and all pipework was first-fixed to suit the new design — bath in the right place, not where the old pipes happened to be.

Full waterproofing

The wet zones were completely tanked before tiling — the invisible stage that decides whether a bathroom lasts five years or twenty-five.

Blue herringbone feature tiling

The feature wall is laid in a herringbone pattern — hundreds of precise cuts, laser-levelled, because at this standard 'nearly straight' is the same as wrong.

Fluted freestanding bath, marble floor, brushed brass

A fluted freestanding bath as the centrepiece, marble-finish flooring underfoot, and brushed brass fixtures throughout — warm, consistent, and chosen to age well.

This is the top end of what we build — and the process underneath it is identical to every GWS bathroom: strip it back, build the structure right, waterproof properly, then finish precisely. The tiles get the compliments; the tanking earns them.
